The Art of Balayage
April 20, 2015
What is the hottest trend in hair color this season? Many of you may have been hearing the new buzzword "balayage" (pronounced Bal-Lay-Age) going around. Lately, we have been seeing pictures of celebrities on the red carpet with hair color that makes them appear "sun-kissed". What exactly is a balayage and is it a look for you?
Balayage (French word which means "to sweep") is a coloring technique designed to create very natural-looking highlights that grow out without developing a noticeable and obvious root. The new technique is combined with the "blurring effect" we do here at Destination Salon and Spa, which is combining the two softer dimensional tones without any harsh lines. Instead of using foil, the color is applied freely on the roots where the sun would normally cast a glow. The goal is to look like you have natural highlights from the sun. It is a great way to add dimension to your hair.
How is this different from the ombre look? The ombre technique involves applying color to only the ends. There is not a sweeping movement where you paint the colors in, which is why there is more of a hard line with the ombre look. Although both techniques are low-maintenance and trendy, the ombre technique produces a more dramatic look. If you choose the ombre look, you will want to be sure to use a deep conditioner regularly as the bleach can weaken and dry your hair.
